While Google is not really against these articles as long as they are informative for the readers, educate another site’s audience or bring awareness about your cause or company, what really violates Google guidelines on link schemes is when the purpose of publishing these articles is to build inbound links in a large-scale way.
Google has shared some factors that indicate when article violates the guidelines:
1. Stuffing keyword-rich links to your site in your articles
2. Having the articles published across many different sites; alternatively, having a large number of articles on a few large, different sites
3. Using or hiring article writers that aren’t knowledgeable about the topics they’re writing on
4. Using the same or similar content across these articles; alternatively, duplicating the full content of articles found on your own site (in which case use of rel=”canonical”, in addition to rel=”nofollow”, is advised)
5. If Google detects a website that is publishing articles with spammy links, its search ranking could be affected. If there are any questionable links in the article, they should be nofollow. Action will also be taken against websites that create these articles.
