Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella expressed the keynote address on day two of Future Decoded, publicize as India’s largest digital transformation event. In this event, he spoke about Microsoft’s initiative in India for government organizations as well as enterprises with a focus on cloud-computing. Two of the major announcements from the Microsoft Future Decoded India 2017 are “Project Sangam” and “Skype Lite”.
Project Sangam
For Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Skill India’ initiative, Nadella on Wednesday launched “Project Sangam” to help the government not only train but also help people get jobs via professional networking website LinkedIn. Project Sangam will inaugurate in Andhra Pradesh and it will aim at employing and empowering people. According to Nadella “The company will allow people to enroll through Aadhaar cards and later utilize LinkedIn to manage their profiles”. After the completion of training, Microsoft will update candidate’s profiles for organizations to shortlist and hire the candidates. Candidates will also receive job options based on their skills.
Skype Lite
On 22nd February 2017, Microsoft during “Future Decode” conference announced the launch of Skype Lite, optimized for 2G and unstable network connections so you can stay connected with friends and family. Initially, it will only be available in India for Android smartphones.
Although having nearly all the features of the standard Skype, the Skype Lite is less than 13MB in size and works very well on lower-end smartphones. It will also come with Aadhaar integration, so that you can chat with other ‘Aadhaar Verified’ users on both Skype Lite and regular Skype while interacting with government services, job interviews etc. Microsoft announced that the Aadhaar data will be automatically deleted from the device once the Skype chat is over.
