opt-in feature called Nearby Friends for users to get a direct
connection with each other and find out who is around them.

NearbyFriends was built by the Glancee location sharing app team led by
Andrea Vaccari, his
new
foundation
for
meeting
nearby
people
who
have
friends
and
interests
in
common. It adds a
list of nearby friends to Facebook’s iOS and Android apps to make
it easy to discover when someone is around you and meet up and spend
time together. It will also send notifications if you come within a
short distance of a friend and if someone shares their precise
location with you you’ll see it on a map.
The
feature lets you see which friends are nearer to you or exactly how
far away you are from them and you can share your accurate, on-going
location with them for a limited time, presuming that both you and
the other party have enabled the functionality first. The feature
works on devices running both Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android
operating systems that have enormous user bases.

the coming weeks in the US, the feature will soon be able to see
which of their friends are nearby using. As for your own privacy,
Nearby Friends is optional so you can avoid it and get immediately
disappear from the Nearby Friends section or never use it if you
don’t want to and it won’t be available to users under 18.
