Internet major Yahoo made a major change to its logo, but unless you have studied design it’s hard to tell the difference.
Yahoo it has divulge a new logo for the first time in history since it was founded 18 years ago. The redesigned logo is part of the company’s makeover under its CEO Marissa Mayer.
The design keeps many of Yahoo’s traditional logo elements. The color scheme remains purple, the letters capitalized and, perhaps most important, the exclamation mark is still there.
But other parts of the logo are different, if you look closely.
For example, the logo no longer has those little tails at the end of each letter called serifs and each letter is thinner and taller than before. Additionally, Yahoo went with a chiseled look for each letter, adding depth to its logo while most of the tech world has been gravitating toward so-called “flat” design in recent years.
Yahoo said it wanted a logo that stayed true to its roots yet squeeze the evolvement of its products, as the redesigned logo is similar to the old purple one.
The logo was shown both with purple letters and in white with a purple background spelling out the word Yahoo!The website had also started a 30-day logo preview program in which users saw some of the proposed logos.Despite Mayer’s acquisition spree of big and small business ventures, the company has not seen any significant lift to its revenue and the 80% hike in its stock is mostly driven by the its 24% stake in China’s Alibaba Holdings Group.
