India is at the edge of a Digital Revolution, as the Narendra Modi Cabinet gave approval for Digital India project, that that aims to connect all Gram Panchayats by high speed Internet and communication technology to transform the country into digitally empowered society and a connected knowledge economy. The programme management structure is monitored by Narendra Modi and it will be implemented till 2018. This is an e-governance programme initiative to prepare Indian citizen for a future full of knowledge about the government services through a unique ID and e-Pramaan based on authentic and standard based interoperable and integrated government applications and data basis.
The Digital India programme will provide a digital infrastructure to every citizen with a view of using information technology to improve governance and spread education. It aims to impart power to nine pillars identified as growth areas, namely Broadband Highways, Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity, Public Internet Access Programme, e-Governance (reforming government through technology), e-Kranti (electronic delivery of services), Information for All, Electronics Manufacturing, IT for Jobs, Early Harvest Programmes.
The implementation of Digital India programme aims to integrate departments to provide information and government services like health and education to the people with an easy and a single window access in a timely and effective manner. It expects a safe and secure cyberspace at making available government services in real time from broadband highways and mobile platforms. Central Ministries/Departments and State Governments would have the overall responsibility and the important components of the management structure would consist of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for according approval to projects.
