The retired cricketing master and the biggest sports icon became the first sportsperson and the youngest recipient to be bestowed as the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan for his 24 years of a brilliant career. Tendulkar was also the first sportsperson to become the member of Rajya Sabha last year.
The little master who began his record-breaking career by playing against Pakistan has now known to his ardent fan as the God of Cricket. Tendulkar dedicated the honour to his mother and all mothers of the country, who have kept aside their personal desires to fulfill the dreams of their children. As once in a press conference he said, "There are millions and millions of mothers in India who sacrifice many things for their children. I would like to share my award with them."

He has proved himself as the finest ambassador of India in the world of sports and his achievements in cricket are exceptional, the records set by him are unbeaten and the spirit of sportsmanship presented by him impeccable.
